This memo invites proposals to conduct tenure-track faculty searches during the 2024-25 academic year.  As you know, there are significant financial constraints that may limit the number of searches that can be approved, but we want to continue to make hires that optimally support the strategic goals of the college and university and address existing/anticipated needs as resources permit.

It is possible that the Provost’s Office will be supporting a university-wide DEI-focused cluster hire consisting of: 1) faculty lines related to supporting our goal of increasing scholarly expertise in issues related to African American Studies and/or pertinent to the African American/ Black community, and 2) faculty lines related to supporting our commitment to becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution, with priority given to proposals looking for positions that include expertise in Latinx/e Studies in areas of research or teaching, or significant experience working with Latinx/e populations. The college would welcome proposals for positions that would fit with these foci.

Please use the form below to propose a search. The narrative section (two-page maximum) should describe the need for the position and its strategic value to the department, college, and university (how it will help advance the initiatives/goals of the department, college, and university). Please also indicate how this search would fit into your three-to-five-year hiring plan for the unit.

As indicated above, proposed searches should be justified on the basis of future goals and continuing needs and not just the departure of a faculty member. For example, rather than simply noting that Professor X has left and their courses need to be covered, you will want to critically examine your curriculum and position in the college and university and base your rationale on the resulting identification of courses that are most needed to support your major, meet your general education responsibilities, and connect your discipline to interdisciplinary initiatives in the college and university. It would also be important to note the potential impact of the hire on the teaching and scholarship goals and initiatives in the department, college, and university.

Please keep in mind the following considerations:

  • Cooperation between units can be a valuable strategy for serving multiple needs and leveraging resources when appropriate.
  • Searches will normally be approved only at the level of assistant professor. Searches at more senior levels will be approved only in extraordinary circumstances.
  • Approval of a search may mean giving up one lecturer allocation without any drop in SCUs.

Proposals are due by Friday, April 19, 2024.

For external funding proposals, this form must be submitted no later than 15 working days in advance of the proposal deadline (working days do not include weekends or staff holidays). This deadline is currently aligned with the Pre-Award Milestone 3 deadline.

For external fellowship recognition, please complete this form after you have been awarded and have decided to accept the fellowship.

Please note that this a pilot program. Components may change in response to input and utilization. Your input is appreciated.
